Location: Amsterdam, Museumplein

Imagine being a tourist in Amsterdam, walking outside the various museums, like the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum, and suddenly you see a large group of people huddled together.

You are curious because you hear some music and you see people dancing. Every minute or so, a new song starts.

This is called a “random play dance,” or RPD in short. Fans of various K-Pop groups come together at an appointed time and place. Some come to dance, others just to watch.

You hear “Backdoor” by the group Stray Kids blasting through the speaker. Everyone who knows the choreography of it runs to the middle and starts to dance.

Is it a competition? Usually not; it is just for fun. You can look at others dance, join, laugh, and make new friends. It does not matter what group you are a fan of. At that moment, everyone is equal.

The music stops. The organizers are announcing a break. It was a cold day, with a breeze. So we were all hoping the break was not that long. Also because there was a surprise…

The birds were whispering to each other that the K-Pop group ‘One Pact’ might be joining the RPD. How exciting! You do not get to dance with a K-pop group every day, and One Pact is known for their sharp choreography. (An introduction to One Pact will be made in another article).

Around 17:55, One Pact arrived! Everyone was patiently waiting, but nobody ran up to them. We gave them their space.

One Pact introduced themselves with 4 members; member Jay Chang is currently away for solo activities. They performed two songs for the public: Deserved and Must Be Nice. Those songs are usually sung by Jay Chang as well, but the members of One Pact excel in adapting to different member setups.

After performing, One Pact waited on the side just like everyone else. The RPD continued.

When there was a song they knew playing, One Pact would join and dance alongside fans. What a precious memory!

As the RPD progressed, the cold was just a slight feeling in the back of our minds.
